Immerse Yourself in Verse

Every April the Academy of American Poets invites the nation to celebrate poetry and its place in American culture by observing National Poetry Month. McAllen Public Library observes this month-long event with a friendly entreaty to immerse yourself in verse – this month, this year, this lifetime.

This database is a vast collection of great English and American poetry, for your online reading pleasure. It is one of the many electronic resources offered to you FREE of charge through the TexShare databases portal. Contact the reference desk for the TexShare login and password, and then click on the link above.

Your Preferred MPL Location
MPL has been developing its poetry collection to encompass the full range of poetic achievement from ancient times to the present day. Did you know you can "browse" our shelves before you visit the library in person? Here’s how:

Searching "811.54"
  1. Enter our online catalog.
  2. Click on the “Search” tab at the top.
  3. In the search drop-down menu, choose “Dewey Call Numbers”.
  4. Enter “811.54,” the Dewey Decimal Number corresponding to poetry.
  5. Click on the red “go” button.

The results page generated by this search will contain the long list of poetry titles on our shelves. Look to the right and you will find the library location of each title.
