Introducing the Commemorative Library Card
MCALLEN, TX – McAllen Public Library is happy to announce the release of a special library card commemorating the opening of its New Main Library in the Fall of 2011. Starting today, the commemorative library card is available to the public, current and new cardholders, free of charge at all locations.

Each card comes in a set containing 1 wallet-size card, 1 key tag, and 1 bookmark. The set comes pre-made and features a colorful rendering of the new library’s grand entrance on one side. The flip side features a unique barcode and library contact information.
“The commemorative card reminds everyone what we have to look forward to in just a few months’ time,” said Jose Gamez, Library Director.
Things to keep in mind about the commemorative library card:
- No replacement fee. The card is free to everyone: staff, current and new cardholders, patrons who have lost their old card, patrons who possess a card from another Hidalgo County Library System library – everyone.
- Those with the old MPL card or another HCLS library card are asked to swap their old card for the commemorative card. All old cards will be shredded.
- A limited edition card with a limited print run. It anticipates not just the new library but the permanent new library card, which will be unveiled in early 2012.
- New phone numbers. Once the new library opens each library location will have a new phone number. These new numbers are listed on the commemorative card and are active, but until opening day, they redirect to MPL’s current phone numbers.
- Speedier registration process for new cardholders. Because the card is pre-made and because new account registration is completed online, new cardholders should look forward to a registration process that is faster and more convenient than ever before!
