Subject: Little Town, Texas Poetry Contest
MCALLEN, TX, January 27, 2010 – Teens! In honor of Karla K. Morton’s visit to McAllen Memorial Library on March 9, we are having a “Little Town, Texas Poetry Contest.” This contest is open to teens, ages 11-17. Poems should be typed on one side of an 8.5” X 11” sheet of paper. Entrants should write an original poem about their town in Texas.
One submission per person, please. Each poetry submission should be no longer than 30 lines. Each submission should include the person's complete contact information (on the submission itself), including: full name, telephone number, full address and email address (if available).
There is no entry fee.
The deadline is February 19.
Entries can be brought to any of the McAllen Public Libraries. Library locations are: Lark Branch Library, 2601 Lark Ave. (688-3320); McAllen Memorial Library, 601 N. Main St. (688-3300); and Palm View Branch Library, 3401 Jordan Ave. (688-3322).
Three winners will receive a prize and get to recite their poem on March 9 at McAllen Memorial Library, during the “Little Town, Texas Tour” stop of Karla K. Morton, the 2010 Texas State Poet Laureate.
