MPL To Implement Borrower Rule and Threshold Changes
McAllen, TX – In an attempt to recover overdue and lost items and increase availability of the collection to borrowers as a whole, McAllen Public Library will be making changes to the borrower and threshold rules, beginning February 1, 2013. The changes will bring MPL’s borrower rules into closer alignment with those of other Hidalgo County Library System libraries.
With input from the City Auditor, Library Board, library staff, Library Administration, and City Administration, the following changes in borrowing rules and thresholds will be implemented:
- - The maximum number of items checked out to a patron will be 25.
- - To make it easier for patrons to pay their overdue fines, borrowing privileges will be blocked when overdue fines exceed $1.00. Fines will begin accruing at 3 days overdue.
- - Items overdue for more than 30 days will be billed as “lost” items.
- - Patrons will be allowed three renewals per item, as long as the item is not being requested by another patron. After three renewals, the item must be returned and will be available again for checkout.
- - Juvenile cards will be linked to the parent’s or responsible adult’s account. All linked accounts must be in good standing for borrowing privileges to continue uninterrupted.
- - Patrons with overdue items can expect more frequent overdue notification. The library may take action against unpaid delinquent accounts past 90 days.
MPL borrowers can monitor their accounts more closely by
- Using their account number and PIN to log in through the library catalog online.
- Using their account number and PIN to log in via the LS2Mobile iPhone or Android phone app.
- Having their current email address in their patron record, so they will receive due date reminders.
- Promptly notifying library staff of changes to their phone number, email address, or postal address.
